Join in with Savetember, the month that puts money in your pocket
Movember sees men in 21 countries growing facial hair to raise money for men’s health charities. It’s a fantastic idea, and we hope its creators won’t mind us at Solo Expenses borrowing it so we can help you to put more money in your pocket with our own initiative, starting on September 1st. We’ve called it Savetember…
Hands up if know how exactly much money is in your bank account at this very moment. Oh; not you then? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. You’re probably one of the comfortable majority who don’t have to worry too much about what they spend, within reason, because there’s usually enough money left at the end of the month. Of course that’s not everyone. Some do have a constant worry about having too much month left at the end of their money.
It’s too easy to spend
The trouble is, spending money is too easy in our digital world. The simplicity involved in the swipe of a sliver of plastic or punching in a four-digit a pin number have divorced us from hard cash; the coins and paper that give us a real feel for what we have – or haven’t – got. It doesn’t matter where in the world you are; the same’s true.
Have more with the Savetember Challenge
That’s why we’ve come up with the novel and free Savetember Challenge. It will help everyone to reconnect with their money, no matter how much or how little they have, and mean you have more of it at the month’s end.
Here’s how it works
We’d like you to download the free Solo Expenses money management app onto your smartphone. It’s really easy to do at this link. When you have it on your phone be disciplined about your personal spending, and record it all in one of the categories we’ve already set up. You could key it in using the phone keypad; photograph a receipt, or event dictate a voice message.
At this stage don’t do anything differently in terms of your normal spending, but when October 1st gets here, re-visit the app to create a report listing all your spending. We’re confident that when you look at just where and how you’ve spent your hard-earned money, you’ll readily see areas that you could cut back on without damaging your lifestyle, freeing up funds for other, more pressing expenses.
Push through the hardship
Sure, there might a little hardship involved in the short term for a longer-term gain. Perhaps you’ll discover just how much you spend on smoking, which might come as a shock and encourage you to cut back; or you might find that the number of cakes and sweets you eat is pressing uncomfortably on the budget as well as the trouser waistband.
The app works just as well for business as personal spending, but for either option we’d urge you to think of our technology as your friend, helping you to make positive changes to your lifestyle for the heath of your bank balance.
